Abstract: Рассмотрены особенности возникновения и функционирования в украинском культурном про- странстве ХХ в. феномена символизма. С целью выявления специфики украинской версии феномена символизма ис- пользуется сравнительный анализ его проявлений в различных национальных культурах, определяются общие признаки и отличия. = The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the origin and functioning of the Ukrainian cultural space phenomenon symbolism. Based on the results of previous research scientists in the field of culture and art of the author tries to understand the symbolism as an artistic and aesthetic culture of Ukraine during the early twentieth century, which had a considerable influence on the development of Ukrainian cultural and artistic process. The article deals with the essence of the aesthetics of early modernism as a certain conglomerate , part of which is the symbolism . The author analyzes the features of its manifestation in different art forms (theater, literature, visual arts, music ), referring to the philosophical, aesthetic, theoretical and literary thought . In order to identify the characteristics of the phenomenon of the Ukrainian version of the symbolism of the author uses a comparative analysis of its manifestations in different national cultures, outlining common features and differences.
