| Abstract: | The paper considers the term ‘discourse’ in modern linguistics, its structural and functional division based on the opposition of personality-oriented and status-oriented types. Leading approaches to the study of academic discourse are described. Oral academic discourse is defined and analyzed. It is also compared with written academic communication. |
