The main categories of characters-helpers are subdivided according to ProppТ classification and then analyzed in TolkienТs textsvia comparative and descriptive methods. The functions magic helpers perform throughout Tolkien' epics are also regarded. This article material can be used during the lectures on Medieval English literature, on Mythology and Culturology as the theoretical basis of the work are the studies by C. Baura, E. Meletinskij, V.
