It is devoted to revealing the essence and stages in the formation of the concept of the Baltic substratum in the ethnogenesis of the Belarusians in the works of the 1950s–1970s archaeologist V. V. Syadov. It considers the reasons that caused the Baltic issue to be actualised in the context of the study of the ethnogenesis of the Eastern Slavs in Soviet archaeology.
