Abstract: Polotsk is the most ancient town on the territory of Belarus, for many centuries it has been the political and cultural centre of the Dvina region in Belarus. Archaeological study of Polotsk is one of the priority directions of development of Belorussian historical science. Archaeological sources not only sufficiently enrich modem ideas about the past of the town but also often are the only reliable historical sources.
